Dubai has become one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. Springing up out of the desert, glittering skyscrapers have replaced palm fringed huts that were typical just forty years ago. There are six world class golf courses here. Some, right in the heart of the city, some, a few miles out of town. Two are pro golf academies with excellent facilities, plus annual rainfall of just 11 inches per year, which have really put Dubai on the international golf circuit.

If you are going on a golfing vacation, then Dubai offers a different, and perhaps a more adventurous option. But it’s not cheap. The wealth and expense of Dubai’s golf courses is apparent at one of its icons, the Dubai Creek Golf Club. Opened in 1993, the Dubai Creek Club is situated in the heart of the city, and runs alongside Dubai Creek.

When you want to break away from your exhaustive schedule of museums, churches, historical sites, 17-foot-tall naked men, and the long lines they attract, I recommend hopping on the number 7 bus, and spending a lazy afternoon in the quiet and removed town of Fiesole. It’s only five miles from Florence and you’ll be happy for the time as you sit down, and let the artwork of nature come to you.

Fiesole LandscapeWhile in the city you may not notice Florence’s incredible location, which is in the heart of the region known as Tuscany. Home to the classical Italian landscapes, and medieval towns that we’re so familiar with, Fiesole is one of those towns perched on top of a rolling Tuscan hill. One thousand years ago Fiesole overshadowed its rival because of its advantageous location in the hills, but in 1125 it was conquered and destroyed by the Florentines, and you can see many of the ruins that still stand here.

Dominica is famous for its unusual underwater landscape that has developed around the crater of the submerged Soufrière Volcano, attracting an incredible variety of tropical fish. The Puffer Fish is a common site, when threatened it has the amazing ability to inflate itself into an unswallowable size.
