Dominica is famous for its unusual underwater landscape that has developed around the crater of the submerged Soufrière Volcano, attracting an incredible variety of tropical fish. The Puffer Fish is a common site, when threatened it has the amazing ability to inflate itself into an unswallowable size.

Angel FishWhile diving you’ll see slimey green lumps which are actually Frog Fish which usually hide on coral. You’ll also see Angel fish (pictured) which are some of the most colorful fish in the Carribean, as is their close relative the Butterfly fish. You’ll see Trumpet fish, which look like they are out of a Looney Tune, but it is a carnivore related to the Barracuda.

Male and female Parrot fish look completely different, but often travel in pairs, and are strangely drawn to the Champagne Reef, which gets its name from the hot stream of volcanic gas bubbles. Brain coral grows in abundance here, and the Carribean is home to some of the largest Brain corals in the world.
